The Burdett Fellows are the recipients of scholarships.
One of the programs listed below will be available to you as part of the scholarship initiative. These two programs create the groundwork for nurses who want to advance into senior leadership positions and give them the information and abilities they need to have an impact on both national and international nursing policy.
We are working together with the Burdett Fellows at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Health in Social Science, who are also supported by the Burdett Trust for Nursing. For Burdett Fellows, this engagement will be especially focused on creating a network of research leadership. Peer support will be available, and there will be a chance for growth and sustainability building on a national and international level.
Supporting Your Study and Professional Development
Although juggling your employment and Education can be difficult, we will provide you with the assistance you need to succeed. You’ll be a part of a welcoming community of healthcare professionals at King’s who exchange experiences and talk about the difficulties the industry faces. Our research has a significant global influence, for which we are renowned. In order to help you become a leader in your profession, we’ll share our most recent findings and knowledge with you whether you work in practice or research. We’ll demonstrate how to use the most recent research in healthcare and what it takes to become an expert.
Giving you the chance to push yourself is a crucial component of providing you with a worthwhile experience. Some postgraduate students work as teaching assistants. Others take advantage of chances to assist with our most recent research. Work with internationally renowned academics at the forefront of nursing, midwifery, and palliative care research by joining our vibrant research community. An excellent method to meet others who share your interests is by joining a society. Talks, seminars, and social gatherings are organized by the Nursing and Midwifery Society.
Which Fields Are Eligible?
MRes Clinical Research – Full-Time One Year
A multidisciplinary course with a focus on practitioners who want to advance their clinical or academic research careers is the Clinical Research MRes. The goal of the course is to improve the abilities and expertise required for promoting evidence-based practice while also delivering and integrating research into clinical practice. Practitioners with the necessary innovative and critical-thinking abilities may receive help to continue their education at the MPhil/Ph.D. level in order to pursue clinical academics in the future.
MSc Palliative Care – Full-Time One Year
With the help of our palliative care program, you will be able to perform high-quality research, enhance clinical practice, and create services that are available all over the world. At one of the most powerful centers for palliative care research in the world and the only institute specifically designed for palliative care, you will receive the instruction of the highest calibre. Leading research as well as innovative and evidence-based practice are incorporated in this course. It is given by St. Christopher’s Hospice and the Cicely Saunders Institute.
MSc Clinical Nursing – Full-Time One Year
Your expertise will come from the Clinical Nursing MSc, which will enable you to deliver person-centered, evidence-based care. Additionally, you’ll gain knowledge about how digital techniques are used in healthcare and have the opportunity to interact with institutional and broader cultures that support patient safety and care. With the help of this program, qualified nurses can advance their knowledge and skills and advance their nursing professions. The Clinical Nursing program will also assist you on your journey towards becoming a skilled clinical decision-maker, capable of independently managing and directing healthcare practice.

Who can Apply? All nurses who apply for the aforementioned full-time programmes are eligible for these scholarships, including students from the UK, the EU, and other countries. Additionally, candidates must remain in London throughout the academic year to participate in face-to-face interactions and on-campus teachings.
How are Applicants Selected? Scholarships will be awarded based on evaluations of applicants’ personal statements, academic records, and relevant experience (if applicable).

What Is The Benefit Of The Award?
For full-time enrollment into one of our pertinent postgraduate programmes, there are two prizes available (one for home applicants and one for international applicants). The award will pay a stipend of £10,250 annually as well as the program’s university fees for UK (Home) students. The award will pay the university fees for the program and a stipend of £17,425 annually for international students.

The scholarships offer a special opportunity for nurses who want to advance into senior leadership positions and enhance the quality of care and outcomes for patients by expanding nursing research capacity on a national and international level. They are available for full-time entry onto one of our relevant postgraduate courses.
How To Apply:
All applicants must submit an online application through King’s College London for the MRes Clinical Research, MSc Clinical Nursing, or MSc Palliative Care programmes. You must mention that you have applied for the King’s College London Burdett Postgraduate Nursing Scholarship in your personal statement for that MSc application, along with how the Burdett Fellow Scholarship would affect you and your local/professional communities.
The following documents must be submitted for your application to be taken into consideration:
Supporting Documents
- A CV of no more than two pages with evidence of professional registration as a nurse.
- Two references, at least one of which is an academic reference. If you obtained your qualifications more than five years ago, professional references will be acceptable.
- Personal statement. This can be typed directly into the online application form and is limited to 4,000 characters, or it can be uploaded as an attachment and is limited to two pages. How the Burdett Fellow Scholarship might affect you and your local/professional communities should also be mentioned in the personal statement.
- A description of your research interests and any relevant study projects you may be considering. If international candidates intend to conduct a research project overseas, they will need to provide a letter of support from their health institution confirming access to study sites for data collecting as well as other research activities in their home country.
INTERVIEWS
Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for a brief interview to talk about their background, motivations for applying to the programme, areas of interest in research, and how the award may help them realise their long-term professional goals. Near the end of June 2024, interviews will be conducted online and last for about 30 minutes.
ADDITIONAL TASK
As part of the Burdett Fellows Scholarship, successful applicants will also need to submit a personal statement at the conclusion of their studies that details the impact of the scholarship, their experiences, and the advantages of their chosen area of further professional development. Applicants should be aware of this requirement.
