Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must meet all of the standards listed below to be eligible for Birkbeck International Scholarships:
- Required Language: English
- Eligible Countries: Caribbean, Latin America, MENA (Middle East and North Africa), Africa (Sub-Saharan), Asia (Central Asia, South Asia, South East Asia, and East Asia).
- You have an unconditional offer from Birkbeck to enroll in a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate taught program beginning in the fall of 2024 as an international student from another country who is paying tuition fees. To be eligible, you must have been determined to be an international fee-payer.
- You typically dwell in one of the countries in the relevant region.
- You are self-funded
- You pay tuition as an ‘International’ student, according to the classification system.
- The scholarship is often not offered in conjunction with any other scholarship and is limited to one scholarship per student.

- You must be a citizen of one of the following countries: Bangladesh, Pakistan, or India, and you must reside there.
- Form for persons who often reside in East Asia or South East Asia
- You must be a citizen of one of the following countries or regions: Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Macau Special Administrative Region, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam.
- Form for individuals who typically reside in the Middle East or North Africa
- You must be a citizen of one of the following countries: Turkey, UAE, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Bahrain, Kuwait, or Tunisia, and you must reside there.
- Form for those who typically reside in North America
- You must be a citizen of Canada or the United States and reside there.
- Form for persons who typically reside in Latin America or the Caribbean
- Except for Brazil, you must be a citizen of and a resident of a country in Latin America or the Caribbean. Brazilian nationals may be eligible for the aforementioned Birkbeck Global Future Scholarship.
- Form for individuals who often reside in Sub-Saharan Africa
- You must be a resident of one of the following countries and be that country’s national: Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, The Gambia, Togo, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe are just a few of the countries that are listed.
- Successful scholars will be chosen based on a statement supporting their application that is no more than 4,000 characters. Why they are the best applicants for the scholarship should be explained in the statement.
- You will receive an email notifying you of the results of your application for this scholarship. A non-refundable deposit of £200 must be paid within the time range specified on your award letter, which is normally five working days.
- To be eligible for the award, you must successfully apply for the Autumn 2024 intake no later than October 8, 2024.
