Residents Left Worried After Experiencing A 2-Day Hailstorm
Residents of Gozaki ward in Katsina State’s Kafur Local Government Area are still reeling from the weekend hailstorm that lasted two days.
Although no one was killed in the hailstorm, there are concerns that the hailstones will harm crop growth in the area.
Farmers were concerned that hailstones would destroy crops such as maize, millet, rice, soya beans, and pepper grown in the community.
Alhaji Garba Kanya, Chairman of Kafur Local Government Area; Alhaji Abdulrahman Rabe, District Head of Kafur; and top council officials had already visited the affected area and farmlands.
While sympathizing with the affected farmers and the Gozaki Community over the development, the council chairman urged them to proceed cautiously.
The chairman assured them that the Local Council would forward a report of the incident to the State Emergency Management Agency for possible intervention, despite the fact that farming is the primary occupation of the community.
Rabe expressed concern about the level of devastation and requested government assistance for those whose farmlands had been damaged.
The district chief assured the farmers that they would not be abandoned. The SEMA had yet to issue an official response to the incident on Monday evening.
