Lionel Messi unhappy at PSG? Reports of problems between Argentine, manager Mauricio Pochettino emerge

A few PSG players, including Lionel Messi, are reportedly unhappy with manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Key Highlight

  • Lionel Messi has only one goal in the league to his name in Ligue 1 for PSG
  • PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino has been criticised of late over his style of play
  • Pochettino hasn’t yet managed to get the best out of Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe at PSG

With just goal in the Ligue 1 since moving to Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, even a great like Lionel Messi hasn’t been able to keep himself immune to criticism. Though injuries have also played their role in Messi’s slow start to life at Parc des Princes, reports of problems between him and manager Mauricio Pochettino have left fans worried.

Pochettino was brought on board by the PSG management to end the club’s search of Champions League football. However, the former Spurs boss hasn’t been able to create the sort of magic he had at the North London side yet.

His inability to get the best out of the trio of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Messi has also earned a few detractors. Some reports have also linked him with a move to Manchester United in the summer. Amid such sentiments, suggestions of a fallout with Messi – arguably the club’s biggest superstar – is set to make life even more difficult for Pochettino.

As per a report by Spanish publication Marca, some PSG players, including Messi, aren’t impressed with Pochettino’s style of play, claiming there isn’t any capacity to make good transitions when it comes to counterattacks. This is why the club hasn’t been able to see Neymar, Mbappe and Messi performing at their best.

When asked about these rumours, Pochettino had recently said that he feels calm as he has the backing of his players.

“I feel good and calm,” Pochettino said. “I feel that I have the support of my players.

“We have ups and downs and I understand that being at PSG means a light is shone on the club, and not everything will be complimentary. There are things to improve and we can play better.”
