David Adedeji Adeleke who is popularly known as Davido is a Nigerian Afrobeat singer, songwriter, philanthropist, influencer, music producer and media personality. He has deployed massive energy and composure to the Afrobeat genre and proved his high-profiled qualities.

Early Life

David was born on 21 November 1992 in Atalanta Georgia to a family of a vital wealthy man, Adedeji Adeleke. His father strived and earned a big name in the business forum and married a Nigerian lecturer who emerged to be Davido’s mother.

David is the youngest child of 5 siblings. He naturally attained his leadership qualities in his childhood. He attended the popular British international school in Lagos where he acquired his primary and secondary school education.

At the age of 16, he relocated back to Atalanta where he enrolled on a life-changing educational forum sponsored by his father. Just quite after he relocated, he enrolled in Oakwood University to study business administration.

His father dreamt to establish him as a dominant businessman but Davido was interested in music. While studying at Oakwood university, he bought musical instruments and started recording.

He worked with his cousins, B Red and Shina Rambo to form a music group identified as KB international where he kicked off his musical career.

It swerved vital to the extent that he dropped out of school to deploy more energy and time into his musical quest. He relocated to Lagos and worked on his vocal before moving back to Nigeria in 2011.

However, His father seemed to be the favourable one over their challenges and forced the singer to go back to school. This time, he sponsored him to study music. Davido enrolled in Babcock university and studied music for 4 years before graduating with a degree. This was made possible by his father who paid the university to start a music department for an inaugural class of one student.

Just after then, he kicked off his musical career with his debut album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ which turned out to be a complete hit. People loved him and gave him the boost he needed. To date, Davido is one of the most successful Afrobeat maestros having won multiple music awards.

Musical career

Before fame, Davido started working on his debut album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’ in 2011. The album which is a mixture of Afrobeat and hip hop genres featured the likes of Jay Sleek, Maleek Berry, GospelOnDeBeatz, Spellz, Dokta Frabz, Mr Chidoo, Theory Soundz and Shizzi. These maestros deployed massive efforts on the album which made it a success.

It also featured guest appearances from Naeto C, Sina Rambo, B-Red, Kayswitch, Ice Prince and 2 Face Idibia who infused the class of the album.

However, because his genre was new to the Nigerian music firm, few believed in his potential. The album received a lot of criticism that was centred on his songwriting ability which they tagged wack.

It never restrained Davido’s glory amid how the album still gained its deserved recognition despite the heavy criticism.

It went on to win Best R&B/Pop Album and received a nomination for Album of the Year at The Headies 2013. It was also nominated for Best Album of the Year at the 2013 Nigeria Entertainment Awards.

Formerly, Davido disclosed to several sources that the first hit track ‘Back When’ of his debut album featuring Naeteo C was surprisingly produced by him. It was released on 7th May 2011 and instantly gained recognition. People loved it and fell in love with the album exploring other hit tracks in the album.

The single ‘Back when’ was recorded in London during the Nigerian singer’s tour. He contacted one of the top gems in the music video shoot forum, Clarence Peter who made the video a masterpiece. It was uploaded on YouTube on 9th May 2011 kicking off his YouTube incredible journey.

The glory dispersed to his other hit tracks on the album which earned him a heavy base. One of the hit tracks emerged to be “Dami Duro” which was released on 30th October 2011. Unlike “Back When” he condoned a joint musical production with Shizzi who made the single a hit.

Love Life and Children 

After Fame, Davido became the centre of attraction. He evolved to become every girl’s dream amid the beauty of his musical buoyancy. This lured him to fatherhood.

He dated a vast number of girls before a young Lady completely kicked off his fatherhood quest.

The Lady who is identified as Shola Momodu is a Nigerian unrecognised business mogul and social media influencer. Davido met her at a club while he was on tour. They bonded and yielded a positive outcome. The young Lady accused Davido of being the father of her child but the singer denied it. However, a professional DNA test condoned yielded positive results and announced Davido as the father of Imade Adeleke. He had no choice and embraced reality.

He expanded his fatherhood tally with another gorgeous Lady, Amanda who he met also at a club in the UK while on tour. The two felt affection for themselves and bonded sexually. It yielded another positive outcome making him a father of two. However, Davido tried again to resist the responsibility but was drawn back by a DNA test that emerged positively. The young girl was named, Hailey Adeleke.

Not so long after Nigerians thought Davido has wrapped up his fatherhood quest, he impregnated a professional Chef, Chioma Avril who gifted him his first son, Ifeanyi Adeleke. Chioma Avril’s bond with Davido is quite different from his other women amid how theirs’ was official. There was no DNA test needed because he dated Chioma Avril, unlike his other Baby Mamas.

According to Forbes, Davido is the current richest Afrobeat singer in Nigeria. His net worth is estimated at $45 million.
